Mission

In accordance with the Association of Canadian Archivists Guidelines for Student Chapters, the mission of the ACA@UBC is to:

a. Serve as a means of introducing new archivists into the profession;
b. Enhance the educational function by providing an additional focus for the students to discuss archival issues, identify with the profession, and engage in professional activities;
c. Promote communication among student members and between students;
d. Provide a communication channel for its members with the general membership of the Association and to the Board on matters of concern to the Chapter;
e. Develop the leaders of tomorrow’s archival profession; and
f. Attract new members into the Association.

2018-2019 Executive

Co-coordinator: Alex Alisauskas

Alexandra is an MAS/MLIS candidate at the University of British Columbia pursuing the First Nations Curriculum Concentration. Alexandra was previously an arts writer, researcher and educator. Her interests include digital archives, archival outreach, and emotion in archival theory and practice.

Co-coordinator: Georg Gänser

Georg is a second-year MAS student from Europe. He studied History and Archival Science in Vienna and worked as an Archivist before. His interests include records management and appraisal theories, working for the United Nations, as well as reading, skiing and cooking.

Treasurer: Alanna Blackall

Alanna is a second-year MLIS student. She holds a BA in Greek and Roman Studies as well as a BA (Hons.) in English Literature and Medieval Studies — both from the University of Victoria. Her interests include book history, information retrieval, baking, and reading.

Secretary: Sasha Duranseaud

Sasha is a second-year MAS student. They hold a Bachelor’s in History with a minor in Classical Studies from the University of British Columbia. Their interests include fashion archives, community archives, as well as LGBTQ+ activism, yoga, and reading.

Communications: Isabel Melendez

Isabel is a second-year MAS student, and holds a BA (Hons.) in History from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She is also currently working in the UBC Museum of Anthropology archives and is co-president of LASSA. Her interests include museum archives, records management, as well as reading books, cooking, and drinking tea.

Publicity/First Year Representative: Bronwen McKie

Bronwen is a first year MASLIS student originally from Nova Scotia. She holds a Bachelor of Journalism and International Development Studies (Hons.) from the University of King’s College. She’s interested in literacy, digital records management, and community archives.

Events Co-coordinator: Emily Guthrie-Plouffe

Emily is a second-year MAS student from Edmonton, Alberta. She holds a Bachelor of Music, Vocal Performance Major from MacEwan University. Her archival interests include personal archives and the confluence of social justice and archives. In her spare time, you can find Emily searching for the best vegan food in Vancouver, talking about how much she loves Edmonton, or listening to Joni Mitchell.

Events Co-coordinator: Francesca Magnoni

Francesca is a first-year MAS student from Italy. She holds a Ph.D. in Medieval History and she studied Archival Science in Milan. Francesca was previously a researcher and teacher. Her interests include records management and digital archives.

Events Co-coordinator: Clara Gimenez-Delgado

Clara is a first-year Dual Student from Europe. She holds a Bachelor’s in History and a Master’s in Museums and Historical and Artistic Heritage. She worked in three national museums in Spain, before moving to Ireland to work in the tourism industry. Her interests include History popularization and Numismatics.

Website/Wordpress Manager: Karen Ng

Karen is a second-year MAS/MLIS student, and holds a BA (Hons.) in English and Medieval Studies from UBC. She is interested in transnational histories of the book and exploring feeling and emotion in archival and library work. She enjoys piano and paper arts.

Graphic Design: Silvia Andrades Grassi

Silvia is a second year MAS student from Venezuela. She studied Architecture and specialized in History, Theory and Criticism of Architecture. She is also a musician with emphasis in choral conducting. Her interest in archives arises from the preservation of musical scores. She enjoys graphic design and arts, as well as exploring the nature of BC.

First Year Representative: Claire Jeter

Claire is a first-year MAS student. She holds a BS in Historic Preservation with minors in History and Art History from Roger Williams University. Her interests include community archives, listening to podcasts, reading, and knitting.

ARMA Co-representative: Adrian Bogdan

A second year MAS student, Adrian moved from Prince George to Vancouver to further his education. He holds a BA in History and Philosophy (also from UBC), and is interested in records management, artificial intelligence, and on air radio work.

ARMA Co-representative: Julia Alforde

Julia is a first-year MAS student from Seattle. She holds a BA in English Literature and interned in a county archives last year. Her interests include digitization and migration in archives, salsa and bachata dancing, and getting out into the natural parks when she has the time.

AABC Representative: Dylan Bremner

Dylan is a second-year MAS student from Edmonton, AB and holds a History degree from MacEwan University. His interests include municipal archives, David Bowie, and the writings of H.P. Lovecraft.

LASSA Representative: Victoria Alvarenga

Victoria is a second-year MAS student from Floral Park, New York. She holds a BA in History from the University of Scranton and previously volunteered at the Lackawanna Historical Society. Her interests include preservation, art history, fantasy RPGs, and board games.
